BYUSA is Brigham Young University’s student service association. One of its main goals is to create greater inclusion on BYU campus. BYUSA also strives to foster strong relationships among our campus community and give students the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills while serving their peers.

I joined BYUSA during the fall of 2017, my first semester at BYU. I was part of a smaller sub-committee called “Y Wishes”. We resembled the Make a Wish foundation in granting wishes to people but on a much smaller scale. Students and faculty could submit a student’s name who might be needing a pick-me-up. Members of our community would look through the wish requests and select students to serve. Each week we bought supplies needed to complete those wishes and delivered to the students. We also did other simple acts of service around popular spots on campus.

Fall of 2020 I jumped back into BYUSA but on a different sub-committee known as “Freshman Honor”. This committee is focused on making the freshman and new transfer student experience memorable. With the pandemic, this has been a difficult time to adjust to college life. For some, it has been difficult to feel connected. We have carried out a handful of activities from finals week prep to a trivia night with guest motivational speakers. We utilize social media channels to advertise these activities. I write content for the Instagram posts and stories and help plan out the execution of the event.

One example of BYUSA Instagram content I created was the post featured below. It was released just before finals week in December 2020.
